FAQs

What does a session look like?

What a session “looks like” is based on individual and group needs, therapeutic goals and what material is brought into and then explored in the therapy space. Therefore, each session may vary. Some sessions may elicit movement exploration, while another may “look like” talk therapy focused on verbal processing. No matter what a session may “look like”, they are all approached through an embodied lens.

Do I need dance or performance experience?

No formal dance training or performing experience is needed! The work is for all bodies with or without familiarity to movement expression. Movement is used as a tool to aid in one’s therapeutic journey and is an innate form of expression that is uncovered in the therapy space. There is no one movement style, as it comes from the individual themself.

What if I am physically unable to move freely?

You can still see a dance/movement psychotherapist! A client is met where they are at, and there are many ways to explore themes in connection to the body without needing to psychically move. The therapeutic work lends its focus to bridging the mind, body and spirit in profoundly diverse ways. The client is always in control of their body, encouraged to make appropriate modifications and boundaries for what may best serve their therapeutic journey. All bodies welcome, and in-person services are offered in an ADA accessible space.

What do I need to do to prepare for a session?

Come as you are. The therapeutic space is meant for exploration based on what one brings into it. Some may come with specified themes and topics, while others may not. It is all unearthed in the moment in the safety of the therapeutic space.

How long is a typical session?

Individual sessions are 1 hour. Group therapy sessions range from 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes.

How many therapy sessions are needed?

There is no exact number one can place on length of treatment. Some treatment happens weekly, others bi-weekly, and the duration also varies according to what works best for an individual. The length of treatment is a collaborative decision between both the client and therapist, while working to attain treatment goals. For group therapy, frequency and duration is dependent upon the type of group.

Are you offering in-person or virtual therapy?

I am currently offering both telehealth and in-person services according to what feels safe for an individual. In-person services take place in Chelsea, Manhattan.
